American Toby Jug Museum 

William Butler 3/4 body toby jug produced by Fielding & Company of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1955 using its Crown Devon tradename. William Butler (1816-1893) was the originator of W. Butler’s Brewery in 1840. Butlers’ beers were well known and liked throughout much of Staffordshire, Shropshire, and the Black Country. Their existence was down to the determination and hard work of one man, William Butler, who built a great brewing empire out of a tiny back-street business. W. Butler & Company Limited became one of the most successful brewing businesses in the West Midlands, and Springfield Brewery became one of the most recognizable and well known landmarks on the northern side of Wolverhampton. This jug is an advertising piece for W. Butler's Brewery and is based on its iconic 1907 trademark and logo of an old man, possibly Butler himself, raising a glass. The handle has the word Butler's on it.
