Tony Weller wall mask - Beswick circa 1940

Tony Weller wall mask produced by Beswick of Longton, England, circa 1940. Tony Weller is a fictional character in Charles Dickens's first novel, The Pickwick Papers (1836). Although Samuel Pickwick is a father-figure to Sam Weller, the irresponsible and care-free Tony Weller is his actual father. A loquacious coachman, the character never became as popular as his famous son, but readers have always enjoyed his quaint humour and his even quainter philosophy. The Tony Weller wall mask was designed by Mr. Watkin in 1934.
