Tony Weller character jug - Crown Winsor circa 1985

Tony Weller character jug produced by Crown Winsor of Longton, England, circa 1985. Tony Weller is a fictional character in Charles Dickens's first novel, The Pickwick Papers (1836). Although Samuel Pickwick is a father-figure to Sam Weller, the irresponsible and care-free Tony Weller is his actual father. A loquacious coachman, the character never became as popular as his famous son, but readers have always enjoyed his quaint humor and his even quainter philosophy. Tony Weller is incised on the back of the jug. A horse head forms the handle of the jug.
