Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn thimbles produced by Francesca China of Longton, England, circa 1985. Tom Sawyer is the mischievous hero of Mark Twain's novel, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". Published in 1876, the book remains one of the most popular and famous works of American literature. The novel, which tells of the escapades of a young boy and his friends in St. Petersburg, Missouri, a village near the Mississippi River, recalls Twain's own childhood in a small Missouri town. Huckleberry Finn is the mischievous hero of Mark Twain's acknowledged masterpiece, "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". Huck Finn, who first appeared in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", is the village outcast. Much action takes place on a raft on the river and Huck's refusal to surrender a runaway slave to the slave hunters marks his highest point of moral development.
