Toby with Pipe toby jug green jacket - Hornsea Pottery circa 1950

Toby with Pipe toby jug finished in a full colorway with a green jacket, designed by Colin Rawson and produced by Hornsea Pottery of Hornsea, England, between 1950 and 1952. Toby with Pipe features a standing man who is out for a leisurely evening walk. He his raising his pipe to his mouth with his right hand. He is holding a walking stick in his left hand, his left arm and walking stick forming the handle of the jug. The full colorway appears to be painted over a common Hornsea blue pastel glaze and the name Princetown added to his hat, suggesting that this decorating was done outside the pottery at a later date.
