The Walrus & Carpenter character jug - Royal Doulton 1965-1980

The Walrus & Carpenter character jug modeled by Max Henk and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1965-1980. The Walrus & Carpenter appear in Lewis Carroll's 1871 "Through the Looking-Glass", the sequel to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Having walked through a large mirror backwards into Looking-Glass House, Alice runs into many strange characters, including Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Tweedledum recites for her a very long poem about this unlikely pair who lure innocent, unsuspecting oysters out of the sea for a "pleasant talk" and then proceed to gobble them up . On hearing the poem, Alice declares the Walrus and Carpenter "very unpleasant characters." A walrus forms the handle of the jug. In addition to this large jug, a small size (D6604) and a miniature size (D6608) were also produced.
