The Schoolmaster character jug - Mason's circa 1975

The Schoolmaster character jug produced by Mason's of Hanley, England, circa 1975. The word schoolmaster, or simply master, refers to a male school teacher. He is responsible for running the school, planning the curriculum, and teaching lessons. This usage survives in British private schools, both secondary and preparatory, and a few Indian boarding schools that were modelled after British public schools, but is generally obsolete elsewhere.
