American Toby Jug Museum 

The Pharaoh character jug designed by Robert I. Tabbenor and produced in a yellow flambé colorway by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1996 limited edition of 1,500. Pharaoh was the title given kings of ancient Egypt (1570-1300 B.C.). Ancient Egyptians considered the pharaoh a god and the Son of God in human form. In theory he owned all the land and people in Egypt, but, in reality, his power was limited by strong groups, including the priests and nobles. His actions were limited by rules of conduct, which the Egyptians believed the gods had set down. Writers of the Old Testament almost always used Pharaoh as a title for the King of Egypt. Among the most famous Pharaohs were Kahfra, Amenhotep IV, Tutankhamen, Ramesses II, Ramesses III and Cleopatra VII. A symbol Ankh, Shawabty and the head of Anubis form the handle of this jug. This Pharaoh character jug is finished in a striking all-over yellow glaze, which was the result of this being an unfinished jug, not fired in its final flambé glaze finish.
