The Best is Not Too Good stoneware matchstand in a white lapel and buttons colorway, modeled by Harry Simeon and produced by Royal Doulton of Lambeth, England, between 1924 and 1929. The Best is Not Too Good depicts a jovial consumer of fine brews whose ambition was "Old wood to burn, old ale to drink, and old Friends to trust". Sitting on the ground with his left leg down and right leg up, a pitcher of ale in his left hand and a full mug of ale in his right hand, this model is based on the Squat Tobies of the 19th century.
