Street Doctor toby jug - Franklin Porcelain 1980

Street Doctor toby jug designed by Peter Jackson and produced by Franklin Porcelain of London, England, in 1980 limited edition and sold on a subscription basis. The Street Doctor has cures and ointments for any ailment or malady. Just ask him. Very common in Victorian London, street vendors sold merchandise or services that were easily transported; the term is synonymous with costermonger or peddler. Street vendors often advertised by loud street cries or chants, and bantered with customers, to attract attention and enhance sales. This Street Doctor cries out, "Cures for all ills!" This is one of twelve toby jugs in the Cries of London Series.
