Stanley Matthews character jug produced by Wood Potters of Burslem of Burslem, England, between 1992 and 1996. Stanley Matthews (1915-2000) is Stoke-on-Trent's hometown English sporting legend. Just out of school at age seventeen, he signed a contract with Stoke City. In his thirties he left Stoke to play for Blackpool, only to return to Stoke in 1963 at the age of forty-seven, playing until he retired at the age of fifty. The "wizard of dribble" gained fifty-four England caps over an amazing thirty-three years. During his illustrious career he was voted the first-ever European Footballer of the Year and FA Player of the Year twice. Thanks to his outstanding play in the 1953 FA Cup Final, the match has been immortalized as "the Matthews Final." He was as admired for his exemplary sporting conduct as he was for his breathtaking football ability. A pair of cleats form the handle of the jug.
