Standing Toby jug Worthing - Wiltshaw & Robinson circa 1920

Standing Toby crested ware jug produced by Wiltshaw & Robinson of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1920 using its Carlton China tradename. This Standing Toby is wearing the traditional everyday garb of the late 1700s including the long frock coat, buttoned vest, and tricorn hat. He is holding his hands in front of him. Crested ware are small, porcelain objects in a variety of shapes and forms that bear a heraldic crest to represent the area in which they were sold as souvenirs. This crested ware toby jug bears a Worthing crest on Toby's side and the saying "No tongue can tell, no heart can think, Oh how I love a drop of drink."
