Standing Toby jug - Davenport circa 1840

Standing Toby jug by Davenport produced circa 1840. A Standing Toby is an Ordinary Toby who is standing. This Standing Toby is holding his pitcher of ale in his left hand and a churchwarden clay pipe in his right. The Pearlware finish refers to the final clear glazing that contained cobalt and gave a slight blue coloring to glaze that tended to pool between fingers and in the creases in the face.
