Squire Toby jug - Pearlware Staffordshire circa 1810

Squire Toby jug produced in a Pearlware finish in Staffordshire England circa 1810. Squires were gentlemen who usually lived at the village manor house and owned an estate including the village with the villagers being his tenants. The Pearlware finish refers to the final clear glazing that contained cobalt and gave a slight blue coloring to glaze that tended to pool between fingers and in the creases in the face.
