Smoke character jug in a full colorway designed by Tony Sarg and produced by Stangl Pottery of Flemington, New Jersey, circa 1935. With a cigarette or cigar constantly in his mouth, Smoke is rarely found without. The Smoke jug is also known as Smart Alec. Smoke comes with a removeable flat cap that when removed serves as an ashtray. Known to Stangl collectors as stoby jugs (Stangl toby jugs), full colorways were original production in the 1930s to 1950s. Solid colorways were produced in the 1960s and 1970s.
