Skipper character jug - Devonia Pottery circa 1940

Skipper character jug produced by Devonia Pottery of Exeter, England, circa 1940. A skipper is the master of a ship, typically the master of a fishing, small trading, or pleasure boat. A braided heavy rope forms the handle of the jug. The skipper's hat says "Lyme Regis", which is a charming seaside town in west Dorset, England. Sometimes dubbed the "Pearl of Dorset", it lies by the English Channel at the Dorset–Devon border. It has noted fossils in cliffs and beaches on the Jurassic Coast,
