Sea horse toby jug - Price Kensington circa 1970

Sea horse toby jug produced by Price Kensington of Burslem, England, circa 1970. A sea horse is any of 46 species of small marine fish in the genus Hippocampus. "Hippocampus" comes from the Ancient Greek hippokampos from hippos meaning "horse" and kampos meaning "sea monster" or "sea animal". Having a head and neck suggestive of a horse, sea horses also feature segmented bony armor, an upright posture and a curled prehensile tail. Sea horses are mainly found in shallow tropical and temperate salt water throughout the world. They live in sheltered areas such as seagrass beds, estuaries, coral reefs, and mangroves. This sea horse's tail curls up to form the handle of the jug.
