Sancho Panza character jug produced by G Bongera of Spain circa 1970. Originally published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615, its full title is "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha". It is often referred to as the first modern novel and is considered one of the greatest works ever written. It is one of the most-translated books in the world and best-selling novel of all time. Sancho Panza acts as squire to Don Quixote and provides comments throughout the novel, known as "sanchismos", that are a combination of broad humor, ironic Spanish proverbs, and earthy wit. "Panza" in Spanish means "belly" or "paunch". Panza's head wrap forms the handle of the jug.
