Samuel Johnson medium character jug in a green colorway produced by Ashtead Potteries of Surrey, England, in a 1926 limited edition. Samuel Johnson (1709-1784), often called Dr. Johnson, was an English writer who made lasting contributions as a poet, playwright, essayist, moralist, critic, biographer, editor, and lexicographer. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography calls him "arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history". The English registration number 723230 indicates the design was registered in 1926.
