Sailor toby jug produced in China for Maitland-Smith of Taylorsville, North Carolina, circa 1980. A sailor, seaman, mariner, or seafarer is a person who works aboard a watercraft as part of its crew and may work in any one of a number of different fields that are related to the operation and maintenance of a ship. This sailor has traveled the world and has many tales to tell. Wearing clothes associated with a sailor, the Sailor sits atop a chair holding a pitcher of ale in his left hand and is raising a cup in his right hand to take a drink.
