Rodney's Sailor toby jug - Ralph Wood Pearlware circa 1780

Rodney's Sailor toby jug in Pearlware finish made by Ralph Wood circa 1780. Wearing clothes associated with an English sailor, the Rodney's Sailor sits on a high back chair above a sea chest with handles at each end. He holds a jug of ale in his left hand and is raising his right hand to take a drink from a cup. The Pearlware finish refers to the final clear glazing that contained cobalt and gave a slight blue coloring to glaze that tended to pool between fingers and in the creases in the face.
