Punk toby jug version 1 produced by Maria Alvarez Echenique of London, England, in 2019 as a unique piece of artwork in The Subcultures of Hackney Series. This Punk toby has an iconic brightly dyed punk Mohican hair style. His clothes, décor, tattoos, piercings and boots mark him out as a punk rocker. As befitting aspects of his lifestyle, he is drinking a strong lager, smoking and sitting on a beer barrel. His clothing and tattoos are marked with favorite band names and an anarchy symbol, denoting some of his likes and beliefs; this symbol and, especially, his choice of underground and anarchist punk bands such as Dirt, P.A.I.N, and Crass, mark him out as hardcore ‘anarcho-punk’ with radical views about society. The barrel and handle are highly adorned with images of some classic and underground band logos and album covers. Hackney is a vibrant multicultural part of inner London, and punks have been a colorful and active part of the social life of Hackney. Though slightly less common these days, “punk’s picnics” still take place in parks, noisy gigs in pubs and small venues, and sometimes underground squat parties are put on with punk bands as a part of them.
