President Lincoln face pot produced by Kevin Francis Ceramics of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 2004. Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) was an American lawyer and statesman who served as the 16th president of the United States from 1861 until his assassination in 1865. Lincoln led the nation through the American Civil War and succeeded in preserving the Union, abolishing slavery, bolstering the federal government, and modernizing the U.S. economy. Lincoln's face pot quote, "If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?", is his reply to Douglas referencing his homeliness during the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates, when Douglas accused Lincoln of being two-faced.
