Policeman character jug - Small World circa 1980

Policeman character jug designed by John Tasker and produced by Small World of Nairn, Highland, Scotland circa 1980 in a limited edition of 5,000. Racing through the streets of London in his squad car, this Metropolitan policeman needs to be an exceedingly competent driver. The piercing siren warns of his approach, but he must still weave in and out of the traffic at high speeds in order to reach the scene of the crime as quickly as possible. Handcuffs and truncheon beside him, the policeman is all prepared to make another successful arrest upon his arrival. There are fifty-two police forces in Britain, mainly organized on a local basis, and comprising about 150,000 full-time police officers, of whom about twelve percent are women. The Metropolitan Police Force and the City of London Force are responsible for policing London. The heart of policing is the work done by police constables, who are in constant contact with the public, patrolling the streets on foot or in cars. The Police post sign standing outside the police station forms the handle of the jug.
