Piper toby jug small - Quimper circa 1970

Piper toby jug in a small size, produced by Quimper of Quimper, France, circa 1970. Pipers traditionally led the Scottish regiments into battle, the bagpipes rousing their spirits and scaring the enemy. Bagpipes were first brought to Scotland from England in the early fifteenth century. They have become Scotland's national instrument. However, this is not strictly a model of a Gordon Piper. The red tunic and imposing headdress are that of a Gordon drummer, as opposed to the bottle green tunic and Glengarry cap worn by the piper. The Tiger lapel and sash badges on this Piper identify him as a Gordon Highlander.
