Pioneer Woman character jug - Southern Potteries circa 1940

Pioneer Woman character jug produced by Southern Potteries of Erwin, Tennessee, circa 1940. A pioneer woman was any woman who traveled West with her husband who was lured when he heard the siren call of the West, with its fields of gold and silver, its acres of free and bountiful land, its tantalizing promise of prosperity, and its summons to adventure. While a pioneer woman certainly followed her husband on the difficult journey westward through a sense of duty to him and to her family, many would discover a larger role in life, a new sense of identity and self-worth that became an unexpected dividend of independence and freedom. This jug is marked Blue Ridge China and is the same model as the examples marked Cash Family.
