Parson John toby jug produced in a large size by Shorter & Son of Stoke-on-Trent, England, circa 1940. Parson John is an 18th century itinerate minister found traversing his circuit in the Colony of Virginia with frequent journeys to the Carolinas and northern colonies. Dedicated to saving both the colonists and native Americans, he preached tirelessly as he traveled through the region. A tree branch forms the handle of the jug. This is the larger of two known sizes with the smaller size standing 6 3/4" tall.
