Paratrooper character jug prototype - Royal Doulton circa 1990

Paratrooper prototype character jug designed by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, circa 1990. A paratrooper is a military parachutist, someone trained to parachute into a military operation and usually functioning as part of an airborne force. Military parachutists and parachutes were first used on a large-scale during World War II for troop distribution and transportation. Paratroopers are often used in surprise attacks, to seize strategic objectives such as airfields or bridges. Featuring a deployed parachute carrying much needed supplies as its handle, this jug was designed by William Harper for a Heroes Series of character jugs but was never put into production. Only one example is known.
