Ostler Josh toby jug produced by Westminster Pottery of Hanley, England, circa 1950. An ostler is someone who took care of people's horses when they stopped at an inn or took care of a the cavalryman's horse. Ostler Josh has been working at the village inn for many years, caring for the horses of all who stay at the inn. Josh's left arm resting on a hitching post forms the handle of the jug.
