Ordinary Toby jug - Empire Porcelain circa 1920

Ordinary Toby jug produced by Empire Porcelain of Stoke-on-Trent England circa 1920 using their Empire Works tradename. The Ordinary Toby is the original toby jug featuring a seated common man of the time wearing 18th century clothing and a tricorn hat. He is holding a full pitcher of ale in his left hand and balancing it on his knee with his right. This Ordinary Toby jug is designed in the style of Copeland Spode Ordinary Toby jugs. The mark on the underside of the jug dates this piece between 1912 and 1928.
