Ordinary Toby bank - George Borgfeldt circa 1930

Ordinary Toby bank produced in Germany for importer George Borgfeldt of New York, New York, circa 1930. The Ordinary Toby is the original toby jug featuring a common man of the time wearing 18th century clothing and a tricorn hat. Sitting in a chair, this Ordinary Toby has an overflowing pitcher of ale in his left hand and balancing it his left knee with his right hand. The top of the toby jug has been closed off and a slot added for coins. A stopper is placed in the bottom to remove the coins. Note the gilding on the jug typical of top quality German porcelain.
