Mrs. Bumble character jug - Kingston Pottery circa 1980

Mrs. Bumble character jug modeled by Peter Dunn and produced by Kingston Pottery of Hull, England, circa 1980. Mrs. Bumble is a fictional character and minor antagonist in the 1838 novel "Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens. Mrs. Bumble (formerly Mrs. Corney) is cautious, distrustful, cruel, and power-hungry. The snugness of her little room is in sharp contrast to the bitterness of the rest of the workhouse, where the paupers have to live. Before marrying Mr. Bumble, she feels sorry for herself despite the snugness because she is a lonely widow. Mrs. Bumble is very merciless and callous towards the poor paupers and orphans whose charge is given to her.
