Mr. Cobbler character jug produced in Taiwan by Hoffman of the United States in 1978. Some researchers say that the word leprechaun may be derived from the Irish leath bhrogan, meaning shoemaker. Though leprechauns are often associated with riches and gold, in folklore their main vocation is anything but glamorous, they are humble cobblers, or shoemakers. Cobblers repair and sometimes make shoes, and they may also repair luggage, belts, handbags, briefcases, and other objects. Long ago, cobblers hammered nails and stitched threads to hold the parts of a shoe together. A boot form and boot make up the handle of this jug. The Mr. Cobbler character jug is a part of Hoffman's Leprechaun Series.
