Miserly Scrooge character jug - Department 56 circa 1990

Miserly Scrooge character jug produced in China for Department 56 of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, circa 1990. Scrooge is the elderly man with a heart of stone from Dickens' novel "A Christmas Carol". Probably Charles Dickens' best-known character, the miserly Scrooge, with his familiar cry of "Bah, Humbug!", is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, who sends three more spirits, or ghosts of Christmas, in hopes of reforming Scrooge's heartless and penny-pinching ways. Scrooge will not let his downtrodden partner leave work to return to his family for the Christmas holiday. After visits by the three ghosts on Christmas Eve, Scrooge finds compassion in his heart and changes his ways. A Christmas cracker with a chain and lock on it forms the handle of the jug.
