Milkmaid teapot - Sarreguemines circa 1905

Milkmaid majolica teapot produced by Sarreguemines of Lorraine, France, circa 1905, model number 3879. A milkmaid was a girl or woman who milked cows. She also used the milk to prepare dairy products such as cream, butter, and cheese. Many large houses employed milkmaids instead of having other staff do the work. In France, this teapot is called Blanc Bonnet, directly translated as white bonnet, the French term for milkmaid.
