Marilyn Monroe prototype mid-size character jug designed by Caroline Dadd and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in 2008 for the Film Celebrities Collection. Born as Norma Jeane Mortenson (1926 - 1962), Marilyn Monroe was a star with many and indefinable charms. Monroe had an elfin innocent beauty and talent but was supremely unconfident. She loved and was loved by men including baseball Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio. Her third husband, writer Arthur Miller, created one of her most successful, and also her last, roles, starring opposite Clark Gable in "The Misfits" in 1961. Other movie hits included "The Seven Year Itch" (1955) and "Some Like it Hot" (1959). Her untimely and tragic death on August 5, 1962, mirrored the difficulties of her early life. During her brief life she truly was a "candle in the wind" as songwriter Elton John described her. Marilyn was mourned by the world that had taken her into their hearts, a phenomenon she never understood. The handle of the jug features a filmstrip, garter belt and box.
