Lord Nelson toby jug - Staffordshire circa 1910

Lord Nelson 3/4 body toby jug produced in Staffordshire, England, circa 1910. Viscount Horatio Nelson (1788-1805) was Great Britain's greatest admiral and naval hero. He defeated the combined French and Spanish Fleets at Trafalgar on the coast of Spain in the greatest naval victory in British history. His triumph broke the naval power of France and established Great Britain's rule of the seas for the rest of the nineteenth century. Falling in love with the sea early in life, Nelson was a veteran of many naval wars. He lost an eye at the Battle of Calvi, an arm at the Battle of the Nile and his life at Trafalgar, but not before knowing he was victorious. His last words were, "Thank God I have done my duty", which he had expected of every man under his command.
