Lion toby jug produced by Tony Wood Studio of Fenton, England, in a 1983 limited edition for Perennis and offered on a subscription basis. "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is an 1865 English children's novel by Lewis Carroll. It details the story of a girl named Alice who falls through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world of anthropomorphic creatures. The traditional legend of enmity between the lion and the unicorn is recorded in a nursery rhyme. This rhyme was played upon by Lewis Carroll, who incorporated the lion and the unicorn as characters who were fighting for the White King's crown which, given that they are on the White side as well, makes their rivalry all the more absurd. Carroll subverts the traditional view of a lion being alert and calculating by making this particular one slow and rather stupid, although clearly the better fighter. This is one of sixteen toby jug in the Alice in Wonderland Series.
