Lewis Carroll toby jug - Royal Doulton 1997

Lewis Carroll toby jug designed by David B. Biggs and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1997 limited edition of 1,500 for Lawleys by Post. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832 - 1898) was a lecturer in mathematics at Oxford University and a pioneer of photography. However, he is most remembered under his pseudo name Lewis Carroll. Dodgson wrote the popular and fanciful stories for Alice Liddell, daughter of Dean Liddell, who was head of Dodgson's college, Christ Church. Dodgson wrote "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" in 1865 and the sequel "Through the Looking Glass" in 1872. He was a shy bachelor with a stammer, yet his imaginative stories have a keen sense of fun and observation and are universally popular with young and old alike. The stories are full of references to life at Oxford. This toby jug was produced to commemorate the centenary of Carroll's death.
