Lady Hamilton & Lord Nelson thimbles - Francesca circa 1985

Lady Hamilton & Lord Nelson thimbles produced by Francesca China of Longton, England, circa 1985. Dame Emma Hamilton (1765-1815), known upon moving to London as Emma Hart, and upon marriage as Lady Hamilton, was an English maid, model, dancer and actress. She began her career in London's demi-monde, becoming the mistress of a series of wealthy men, culminating in the naval hero Lord Nelson. Viscount Horatio Nelson (1788-1805) was Great Britain's greatest admiral and naval hero. He defeated the combined French and Spanish Fleets at Trafalgar on the coast of Spain in the greatest naval victory in British history. His triumph broke the naval power of France and established Great Britain's rule of the seas for the rest of the nineteenth century. Falling in love with the sea early in life, Nelson was a veteran of many naval wars.
