Knave sugar bowl produced by Viking Pottery of Cobridge, England, circa 1960. In medieval times a knave was a boy servant or male domestic worker who works within his employer's household. Knaves always seemed to get into trouble and earned the reputation of being untrustworthy, liars and deceivers. Today, knaves are scoundrels, good-for-nothing, a rogue, rascal, deceitful fellow, or a dishonest man.
