King of Hearts salt shaker designed by Veronica Wheatland and produced by H. J. Wood of Burslem, England, circa 1965. The King of Hearts is shrouded in mystery and intrigue, with numerous legends and stories surrounding its origins and symbolism. One popular legend suggests that the King of Hearts represents Charlemagne, the first Holy Roman Emperor, who was known for his love of card games and his passionate nature. This is a pair with the Queen of Hearts pepper shaker.
