La Jupe-Culotte majolica toby jug produced by Onnaing of Onnaing, France, circa 1910, model number 784. La Jupe-Culotte is a political statement piece depicting a young woman wearing a skirt with divided legs. This scandalous fashion trend began in Paris in 1906 and quickly spread throughout France becoming embraced by fashion designers by around 1910 and soon acknowledged as acceptable fashion for women. Several colorways of this rare jug are known.
