Jabez toby jug produced by Tony Wood Studio of Fenton, England, circa 1985. Jabez is a boy's name of Hebrew origin that means sorrowful or born in pain. This biblical name refers to a passage in the Hebrew Bible about a mother's relief of finally holding her baby in her arms after a difficult birth. He is holding a cup of ale in his left hand. This was produced from a mold created by H. J. Wood and also used by Wood & Sons.
