Imp toby jug - Vance Faience circa 1900

Imp 3/4 body toby jug produced by Vance Faience of Tiltonsville, Ohio, circa 1900. An imp is a European mythological being similar to a fairy or demon, frequently described in folklore and superstition. Imps are often described as troublesome and mischievous more than seriously threatening or dangerous, and as lesser beings rather than more important supernatural beings. This jug was designed by Rudolf Lorber, who had recently come from the Staffordshire pottery of Thomas Forester. This design is the same as Forester's Schoolmaster character jug.
