Heron with Fish figural pitcher - Minton circa 1870

Heron with Fish large figural majolica pitcher produced by Minton circa 1870. This feeding heron has plucked a brown trout from the stream. The writhing trout forms both the spout and the handle of the pitcher. Designed by Hugues Protat, a French sculptor and noted Minton designer, his signature can be found impressed between the talons of the heron's left foot. This is one of the most spectacular majolica pitchers produced.
