Granny character jug produced by Sterling Pottery of Fenton, England, circa 1950. The grandfather clock strikes four and the noise echoes down the paneled hallway. The steady clicking from the parlor ceases as Granny lays down her needles and skein of wool and rises creakily from the old rocking chair; it's teatime. The Granny of this jug belongs to an age gone by. She is dressed in her favorite gown of heavy black calico because today her cherished granddaughters are joining her for tea. The dignified old lady smiles kindly as the children settle on her knee, ready for one of those wise tales that only granny can tell. Today's grannies, much more modern, are still a great favorite with their grandchildren. An umbrella forms the handle of the jug. This is the largest of four known sizes measuring 3 1/2", 2 1/2" and 1 3/4" tall. This jug was produced from Cooper Clayton molds.
