Glenn Miller character jug modeled by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1994-1998. Glenn Miller (1904-1944) was the personification of the Big Band Sound of the late 1930s and early 1940s. He composed his own theme song, "Moonlight Serenade" and "In the Mood", and made famous such standards as "Chattanooga Choo-Choo", "I Got a Gal in Kalamazoo" and "Pennsylvania Six-Five-Thousand". He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, and, as Captain Glenn Miller, went on to organize one of the best-ever entertainment units in the United States. His orchestra entertained at numerous Armed Forces bases throughout the Second World War. Motivated to bring his music as close to the fighting men on the front as possible, Miller disappeared on a flight between England and France on December 15, 1944. His body was never found. This jug commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of Glenn Miller's disappearance and presumed death. A "Moonlight Serenade" song sheet forms the handle of this jug.
