George Whitfield toby jug produced by Enoch Wood circa 1810. George Whitfield (1714–1770) was an Anglican cleric and evangelist who was one of the founders of Methodism and the evangelical movement. Clutching his hat to his chest with his left hand the lantern he is holding in his right hand is symbolic of his lifelong dedication to proclaiming the Light of the World. He is wearing a grey jacket in this jug.
