George Washington character jug - Noble Ceramics circa 1997

George Washington character jug produced by Noble Ceramics of Hayling Island, England, in a limited edition of 100 in 1997. George Washington (1732-1799) was an American military officer, statesman, and Founding Father who served as the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797. Appointed by the Continental Congress as commander of the Continental Army, Washington led the Patriot forces to victory in the American Revolutionary War and served as the president of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, which created the Constitution of the United States and the American federal government. Washington has been called the "Father of his Country" for his manifold leadership in the formative days of the country. The Washington's Birthday Celebration (WBCA) is an almost month-long event held each February in Laredo, Texas, that celebrates the birthday of George Washington. It is the largest celebration of its kind in the United States with approximately 400,000 attendees annually. This jug was commissioned by Los Caballeros De La Republica Del Rio Grande and commemorates the 100th anniversary of this celebration in 1998. The handle includes Martha Washington and Pocahontas.
